You must need internet connection to do that.
goto system>administration>synaptic packaga manager

goto settings>repositories and select the cd rom.

close and then click on reload icon.

Something weird will be installed then, it will take some time depending on your internet connection.

Now, click on search and search for “m17n” and right click on “m17n-db” and “scim-m17n” and click “mark for installation”.

click on apply. Again something will be installed and it will finish in some time.
you might need to restart your pc.

Now goto System -> Preferences -> SCIM Input Method Setup

click on “IMEngine” and select “Global Setup” and disable all.

Select “M17N-bn-unijoy” under “Bengali” and apply ok.

restart your session by pressing “Ctrl+alt+backspace”

Goto Terminal and type

sudo gedit /etc/X11/Xsession.d/90im-switch

paste the following in the file :

export XMODIFIERS=”@im=SCIM”
export XIM_PROGRAM=”scim -d”
export GTK_IM_MODULE=”scim”
export QT_IM_MODULE=”scim”

Save and Close.

ok all done.

Open any text editor or word processor or anything and press “ctrl+spacebar” to toggle the keyboard to unijoy bangla.
On the lower right side of the screen you’ll find the keyboard layout selector. You can change your keyboard layout from their also. Have Fun.
